Extensive flood alleviation scheme
Devastating floods in the Upper Calder Valley in 2015 expedited the requirement to protect both residential and commercial properties and critical services throughout the valley.
The flood alleviating scheme (FAS) was designed to protect the assets from a one in sixty-year weather/flood event.
Ram Services Limited’s team was commended for their valued efforts across the scheme and have since, continued to secure large FAS schemes across the North West of England.
Problem:
Flood protection of the town and surrounding areas.
Solution:
- Extensive masonry works completed over a two-year programme and included:
- Construction of the new sections of flood defence walls
- Raising of the existing sections of the river walls
- Groundworks
- Mechanical and fabrication works
- Concrete repair works and protective coating works
- Remedial works to the existing culvert network and drainage infrastructure across the town.
Additional Benefits to the Community:
The core works ultimately led to over four hundred homes, businesses and local amenities being protected for the foreseeable future.
